'Is one less than fifty-one?' said P'Tang-P'Tang.
'It's the same,' said Om, firmly. He eyed the back of the Tsortean God's head.
'But you have thousands,' said the Newt God. 'You fight for thousands.'
Om rubbed his forehead. I spent too long down there, he thought. I can't stop thinking at ground level.
'I think,' he said, 'I think, if you want thousands, you have to fight for one.' He tapped the Solar God on the shoulder. 'Hey, sunshine?'
When the God looked around, Om broke the cornucopia over his head.

University

Ridcully blinked.
'What are they?' he said. And then, form the depths of memory, a horrible answer suggested itself. Only a very specific species had names like that.
'Students?'
'Er. Yes?' said Ponder, backing away. 'That's all right, isn't it? I mean, this is a university ...'
Ridcully scratched his ear. The man was right, of course. You had to have some of the buggers around, there was no getting away from it.

The greatest tragedy

'It's all the people who never find out what it is they really want to do or what it is they're really good at. It's all the sons who become blacksmiths because their fathers were blacksmiths. It's all the people who could be really fantastic flute players who grow old and die without even seeing a musical instrument, so they become bad plougtmen instead. It's all the people with talents who never even find out. Maybe they are never ever born in a time when it's even possible to find out.'
She took a deep breath. 'It's all the people who never get to know what it is they can really be. It's all the wasted chances.'

Talent

'Talent just defines what you do,' he said. 'It doesn't define what you are. Deep down, I mean. When you know what you are, you can do anything.'
He thought a bit more and added, 'That's what makes sourcerers so powerful. The important thing is to know what you really are.'
